She Found Cyclocross in her Senior Year of High School. Now, she’s Pedaling into a Less Competitive Stage of her Life
Transcript
Hi, I’m Mia Schumann. I’m a freshman at the University of Oregon and former cyclocross racer. We just hiked to the top of Spencer’s Butte because I just love hiking and being outside.
I was a mountain biker for as long as I can remember, but then I got a really bad concussion. So I was just feeling pretty discouraged and a coach on my mountain bike team had done cyclocross when he was younger, and he always told me that I’d be really good at it, but I really never considered it. But one day he brought me to a local race, and let me ride his wife’s cyclocross bike, and I did not stop racing after that.
I went to cyclocross nationals during Fall term. After that, I just realized that I didn’t really want to train anymore, but I signed up for some of my favorite fun races over this summer and I’ve really wanted to bike pack. So I definitely see where bikes will be forever in my life, I hope.
